I Want You to Remember
Laura Franques went to Hensel Christian Youth Camp in the Summer of 2015, specifically to share her story with the girls of that camp session. The girls were SO impacted by her life and faith! We hope all who read this can reflect on her beautiful life and testimony.
In October 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer, and while this is a very personal thing, it is not a shameful thing. It is something that needs to be talked about. On March 6th, 2015, the doctors removed a large part of my colon along with 10 lymph nodes. I have come to this place in my life because of many poor choices that I made concerning my health and body. What I chose to put in my body is what put me in this position. I want to encourage you to make wise choices about the foods you eat now, because it will affect you later. I don't believe that this was God's plan for me, because I know that God knows His plans for us and they are good! (Jeremiah 29:11) Now that's exciting!... To know that God has a good plan for your life- for my life. However, I also know that we will have trials in this world; but He has promised to be with us and to use the sufferings we face to make us stronger in faith and endurance. Even though this cancer has been quite a hard journey for me and my family, God has used my poor choices to draw us closer to Him and teach us to rely on Him (Romans 8:28). I was raised in church, I knew all the stories; I knew Jesus died for me and that His blood cleanses me- I knew all this, but what I didn't know was the power in the Word. I have realized that true life is found by feeding on the Word of God and living in relationship with the Author of Life. My desire for you is to listen to the wisdom found in Proverbs 4:20-22 which says, " My son give attention to my words, incline your ear to my saying. Do not let them depart from your eyes. Keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh." Don't you see!? these are more than just Bible stories, it's more than just going to church; it's a relationship with the God of the universe, with the Savior of the world. That gives life. God's Word is good and it will give you a new life and restored health!
There were nights when the pain in my physical body was so great that I could not sleep. But there was a comfortable position that I found. The only time that relief came was when I took my focus off myself and turned to worhip God. I spent hours laying on the floor of my shower praying and singing to God, and only then did relief come. We serve a mighty God! He alone is able to deliver! He is the Maker of our bodies and souls. He alone has the power! What I want you to remember from my story is that our powerful and loving God can take whatever is going on in our lives and use it to His glory and our good. It took a fiery trial for me to get to know the Savior personally and deeply, I hope that you will make that choice to know Him like that, whatever the circumstances.
